Laurene loves being the owner and lead teacher of Brilliant Bloomers Nursery School because her passion is teaching preschool. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa, cum laude from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN in 1998 with a bachelor of science, double major in Biology and Spanish. Her plan was to get her PhD in Neurolinguistics, but after working for a year as a research assistant in a neurology lab, she realized that she wanted to work with children instead.
Laurene received a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 2001 and began her career as a Speech-Language Pathologist in California, where she was asked to teach a pre-kindergarten class 5 mornings per week. Teaching soon became her passion and she continued to teach pre-K for 4 1/2 years until deciding to be a stay-at-home mom. Laurene loved being a stay-at-home mom to her two little girls, but missed teaching. So, after moving to Wells in 2010, she created and taught the Talkin' Toddlers program through the Wells Parks and Rec (2011-2012). Laurene then set her heart on starting her own preschool and opened the doors of Brilliant Bloomers in 2013! She feels that her advanced degree in child development and her extensive experience as both a preschool teacher and as a pediatric speech therapist have made her exceptionally qualified to help our Brilliant students Bloom!
Liz is very excited to be teaching at Brilliant Bloomers. She graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a B.S. in Sociology in 2000. She gained teaching experience by working as an assistant teacher at The Crayon Academy in Arundel for 4 years before becoming a stay-at-home mom. Liz's daughter attended Brilliant Bloomers for 2 years, during which time Liz was an active parent in our community and a fantastic volunteer in the classroom. Ms. Liz has been a great addition to Brilliant Bloomers since she joined us as an assistant teacher in September, 2017!
Kate is very happy to be teaching at Brilliant Bloomers! She graduated from the University of Maine with a B.S. in Business Finance in 2005. Kate started her career in the corporate world as a Business Analyst at Liberty Mutual Insurance. Once she started her family she became a stay-at-home mom. Kate was a frequent volunteer at both Brilliant Bloomers, while her kids attended and at the Wells Elementary School. It was during these volunteer positions where Kate realized her love of working with children. Ms Kate has been with us as an assistant teacher since September, 2018!
